WWE Road to Wrestlemania

This is my take on how I would like the WWE to go after Wrestlemania XXV, and my ideal card for 'Mania too. All the rosters remain the same however rivalries will differ. I will write the RAW and Smackdown shows however not ECW. Hope you enjoy.

Backstory

It is the night after WrestleMania XXV, a show that left more questions that answers.

After ECW was disbanded at No Way Out, the Board of Directors announced that 6 of ECW's top extremist would compete in the annual Money In The Bank Ladder Match. The winner this year would not only recieve a World Title match in the next year, however he would also earn a contract with either RAW or Smackdown. The remaining five would be fired. In a brutal and emotional match, Matt Hardy remained victorious after his brother Jeff intervened, knocking Christian off the ladder and fending off opponents while Matt clinched the breifcase.

The second match up saw the World Tag Team Champions defend their gold against CM Punk and Kofi Kingston. After the Board of Directors saved ECW extremists Miz and Morrison from losing their jobs as a result of the disbanding of ECW (by signing them to RAW contracts the week before WM25), the champs were forced to defend the straps of WrestleMania. It looked as if new champions would be crowned, however in a shocking move, Punk nailed his partner Kofi with the GTS and then left the ring. A puzzled Miz covered Kingston for the victory.

After it was announced that Ricky Steamboat was to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, a brash Shawn Michaels voiced his displeasure. He claimed he was far more deserving of the honour. The led to an irate Ric Flair, good friend of 'The Dragon', to challenge HBK to a WrestleMania rematch in Houston. HBK declined, saying he was done wrestling washed up has beens like Flair. A week later HBK wrestled Randy Orton for the WWE Title, but was distracted by none other than Steamboat himself, costing Michaels the match. A furious HBK challenged Steamboat to a match at WrestleMania, claiming he would take the Hall of Famer 'to school'. Steamboat more than held his own at 'Mania, however the Showstopper proved too much nailing 'The Dragon' with Sweet Chin Music to end a classic bout.

In an Interpromotional 6 Pack Challenge for the Intercontinental Title, champion Rey Mysterio relinquished the title to Smackdown's MVP. An irate US Champ Shelton Benjamen, who was upset at being left of the card in place of an IC title bout threatened to ruin the contest through interference. He was however put in his place by a Samoan Spike from Umaga and Swantom Bomb from Jeff Hardy.

After months of tormenting well respected WWE superstars such as Shawn Michaels and Kane, Chris Jericho finally earned the attention of the Deadman. The Undertaker's patience finally wore thin after seeing Y2J put his brother Kane on the shelf in a brutal Ambulance Match at the Royal Rumble. He challenged Jericho to a match at No Way Out. However Jericho failed to show up, instead sending out ally Lance Cade who was quickly dispatched. Y2J claimed he would only face the Undertaker at WrestleMania XXV, where he would end the streak. This was not the case however, as the Undertaker silenced Jericho with a Tombstone Piledriver to go 17-0.

In the first of too World Title Matches, World Heavyweight Champion defended the gold against Triple H. HHH had taken offence at Edge's apparent special treatment on Smackdown as a result of his relationship with Smackdown GM Vickie Guerrero. The champion fought valiantly however he succumbed to the Pedigree beginning another reign for the Game as World Champion.

In the Main Event Royal Rumble winner John Cena faced off against WWE Champion Randy Orton. In recent months RAW had been in chaos due to the absence of the McMahons and a General Manager. In the chaos Legacy, led by Orton, won a power struggle with other top RAW superstars and claimed absolute authority. Cena aimed to take the WWE Title from Orton and reverse the balance of power on RAW. However, due to interference by Rhodes and DiBiase, Orton managed to steal a win, leaving Legacy standing tall as WrestleMania XXV came to an end.

Vince McMahon also returned to the WWE at WrestleMania to announce a new General Manager for Monday Night RAW......Jim Ross! This was certainly a surprise to JR and it was clear he knew nothing about his appiontment as RAWs GM!
