There's pretty much no movie Samuel L. Jackson can't find his way into. I mean, if you had the option of casting him, wouldn't you? So apparently he had to beg his way into a role in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds, but he got it, reports The Playlist. Jackson and Chinese actress Maggie Cheung have both snagged parts in the film, which has been shooting for like a month but apparently still has parts that need to be filled.
Jackson's part will be the narrator, "who's present only in a few spots" according to the Playlist guys who have actually read the script. Cheung will fill in the role of the French woman who owns a movie theater and takes in the main character, Shosanna, when she's being chased by Nazis. Playlist questions Cheung's casting, wondering how a Chinese woman would have wound up in France during World War II, but to me it seems like the kind of random flourish that only Tarantino would have the guts to pull off.
I'm happy to see Jackson in anything, and I like Cheung's roles in Chinese-- we'll have to see how much she can accomplish in French, which she apparently speaks fluently. But I'm not the biggest Tarantino fan in the world, and wouldn't particularly care if the movie was ruined by weird casting. So what say you, Internet?
