Re: Halloween 2: Shooting date announced

Wonder why Rob didn't want to do another. So many liked it so you'd think he'd want to do more.
He's not a fan of whoring out a movie to make a series. To some degree, he's just like Carpenter where he doesn't want to do a sequel if it's just a tweak on the original script. In all honesty, what can Zombie do on Halloween 2 that would be different from the first? It'll just be more of Michael stalking and killing.

I'm torn on this film though. On one hand, Zombie made a film that fits nicely on it's own. There really isn't any storylines that were left open and Michael is dead. At the best, all the writers can do is exactly what has happened to Michael several times, bring him back in some unnatural way to repeat his mayhem by chasing Laurie and presumably Annie again. At the same time, I've never been a huge fan of the original Halloween 2. If there's one Halloween film I'd like to see re-done, it would be that. Halloween 2 is just mindless filler for 70 minutes before Michael and Laurie finally meets up again.

If there is a sequel, I'd love to see a new approach. If nothing else, Rob Zombie's film treated Michael different from all others. Instead of being an unstoppable beast, he's a man. As controversial as this would be, focus the new series on what's controlling Michael (Ie the mask and the evil) instead of on Michael himself. As unpopular as this may be, having a different killer could really broaden the series and make it far more creative. Treat the film similar to Halloween H2O with Laurie just being a complete mess of a person. As Halloween approaches, have her finally just crack and show that the evil that Michael had, had more to do with nurture (In the blood) than it did for nature (The bullies and the mom's boyfriend).

No matter what they do, I actually feel it would be a mistake to just succumb to making Michael the unstoppable cliche horror villain again.
