Well, no offense to Canada or the U.K., but considering how much influence the U.S. has on pretty much every part of the globe, I (previously) would have trusted that Americans would at least temporarily turn off their bigotry switches long enough to actually examine the issues, once they consider how important their votes are.

It's not as if I was under the illusion that we were socially advanced (because the rampant stupidity and mental atrophy flowing through contemporary American society is just as apparent as it ever has been), I just believed that this was a decision so important that there was no way such a large portion of the country could let something as unimportant and irrelevant as skin color actually influence who they vote for. Call me optimistic, but I honestly didn't think that many people could be THAT stupid.

Wishful thinking on my part, I guess.
