What bad stories did you hear about Ted Williams?

I wouldn't try comparing Bonds to Williams

Ted Williams left baseball for 3 years to fight in the war. He was a huge fighter pilot, then came back and still was a legendary player.

Imagine any guy going to Iraq for 3 years, then coming back to baseball and being the same player they were before.
