You cant bench a player or waive a player just so that he doesnt earn a performance-related or playing-time-related bonus. That's a violation of the collective bargaining agreement. So, if they had released him right before he hit 376 plate appearances, it would look like they were intentionally trying to keep him from reaching his $10 million bonus money, and that's against the rules |
