Sounds like you weren't very serious w/ the ex (only a few dates and then ended). I say play dumb. Definitely don't tell your girlfriend that you were looking into another girl's window - very very bad. If you see her outside, then you can tell your girlfriend that you saw her. But don't make up lies that you saw her outside.
Saying you were looking in her apartment thru the windows will get you in trouble, lying that you saw here outside when you didn't could get you in trouble. Play dumb and let it go until you're forced to talk.

Also, take out the garbage for your girlfriend.
