I think it's funny when people say football players are pussies because they wear padding. The reason why they wear pads is because people were literally getting killed on the field early on in football's history.
I've spoken with a couple of people who've played both rugby and football competitively and this is what they've told me:
Most of the big hits that you see in a football game would be illegal in rugby. The contact in rugby hurts (a lot), but the contact in football is more "jarring'.
Also, the non-stop nature of rugby makes you more fatigued, but after a game of football you feel like a big ball of pain
I've only played a few pick-up games of football (never played rugby) so I can't compare the two, but I do know that one time that I played football (sans pads), I felt like I had been run over by a truck |
