| UFC 61 Well I didn't watch the entire show as I only had intrest in the two major bouts which were both disappointing in there own ways. Tito was always going to win for my money and the speed he got the job done was paramount to my disappointment. A more calculating fight would have been better but the genuine heat of this match-up killed that and Shamrock making the first mistake cost him dearly. The heavyweight bout was then disappointing for the opposite reason of Tito/Shamrock. Obviously the respect that the big guys have for each other following first round defeats at the hands of each other made for a stand-offish encounter. Big Tim won out (fairly in my eyes) on points for landing the cleaner shots over 5 rounds that resembelled a Thai boxing match for the most part being totally deviod of any take-down attempts and in some places straight up queensbury rules. In hindsight if the bouts had been the other way around on the card the feelings from the crowd could have given the PPV a more exciting feel. IE the big men going on first and the crowd being suprised by the lack of early finish they expected and then Shamrock/Ortiz going on last and being the ninety second thriller instead of a calculated 2 or 3 rounder. Such is life on the "real" PPV's tho when you can't script the action.
Look forward to hearing your veiws. |
