I think it would be best if they just formed a committee that got together and decided who the All-Stars were.

After Reds fans stuffed the ballots back in the 50's or 60's (I dont remember when), the fans weren't allowed to vote for like 15 or 20 years. MLB needs something like this to happen again. The fans generally do a decent job, but a few undeserving guys (Pudge and Vlad this year, for example) end up making it.

The managers often pick their own guys over more deserving players, which is a shame.

And the representative from each team is a terrible idea.

In general, the whole process is a mess.

I have much less knowledge of the NL, but looking at the stats, this is how I would go:

C: Brian McCann - .351 BA, .935 OPS
1B: Pujols
2B: Utley
SS: Reyes
3B: Cabrera
OF: Soriano
OF: Berkman
OF: Beltran
Bench: Michael Barrett (.305, 9, 31...and he punched A.J. Pierzinski in the mouth)
Ryan Howard
Nomar Garciaparra
Dan Uggla
Bill Hall
Freddy Sanchez
David Wright
Matt Holliday
Jason Bay
Carlos Lee
Adam Dunn

Starting pitcher: Brandon Webb

Other starting pitchers: Bronson Arroyo, Jason Schmidt, Josh Johnson (2.34 ERA), Chris Carpenter, Brad Penny, Chris Young, Pedro Martinez, Tom Glavine

Closer: Trevor Hoffman

Other closers: Tom Gordon, Brian Fuentes, Billy Wagner
