| Jimmyvan retiring? Ouch..........
Miakal is going to freak when he finds out his favorite forum doesnt have a home page.
This comes from Jimmyvan.com
Oftentimes when a professional athlete retires, he'll explain that he made the decision because he was no longer able to perform at the same level that he once did. While I don't play baseball or football for a living, I completely understand that line of thinking in my own unique way.
Despite the variety of significant changes in my life over the last two months, I told myself (or fooled myself really) that things would eventually calm down and that I would be able to resume my usual work on the site. Deep down I knew that I just didn't have the sort of time, not to mention the passion, for JV.com that I used to. But having operated the website for nine years - and with it having become a part of my daily routine over time - I didn't want to accept the fact that it was time to take a step back. I even brought people on board to contribute by way of Raw reviews and news reports in my absence, and they did a great job. But by recruiting others to handle tasks that have traditionally been done by myself, I've shown that I can no longer put the time or effort into the site that I did in the previous nine years. I've allowed the quality of the site to suffer at the expense of my readers, including my Kingpin Members, because of my inability to let go of what's been a regular part of my life for almost a decade.
Effective today (although it's been unofficial for weeks), I'm going on a long-term - and what may become a permanent - hiatus. My schedule isn't easing up the way that I thought it would, and admittedly the dedication and the fire that used to exist within me when it comes to wrestling has somewhat disappeared. Plus, I haven't had a real vacation or significant time off from the site since it was launched. It's been a great ride, and there are so many people to thank for their contributions over the years, from the Open Forum staff to writers to designers to programmers to advertisers to our loyal readers, many of whom have been with us since 1997. At one time or another JV.com has cost me financially, it has cost me relationships, it has cost me countless weekends, and yet if I had it to do all over again I would.
Nobody can predict the future, and so I don't know where I'll be a year, or even six months from now. Therefore for the time being, JV.com won't be totally shutting down. Later this week, the domain name will forward to the Open Forum, and it will essentially become the website. I'm going to launch my own area there in which I can post reviews, commentaries, etc. And it'll be great if all of you guys decide to continue visiting the site to read the posts in the Forum and contribute your own. JV.com is going to exist in the form of the Open Forum until I either decide that I'm ready to relaunch the site at the level of quality that it once was, or until I decide to completely shut the site down.
As for you Kingpin Members, never fear. Those of you with one or two-year memberships will be refunded, with your accounts prorated as of April. All of the monthly membership holders were refunded for April, and so I'll just be closing out your accounts.
Thanks for the memories guys and who knows, maybe one day JimmyVan.com will relaunch and once again become one of your prime destinations for wrestling news and information! |
