I do actually agree with the parents and the police who say the media are sensationalising this whole episode. Yes we need to be aware that these events are happening, but by broadcasting them in the way that they are, it’s giving teenagers who are ‘close to the edge’ the impression that this is a “normal” thing to do. In turn they’ll see that taking their own lives is something that happens to a lot of people, when in reality it’s not.
