I think it comes down to records and/or chase of records. The media feels stupid for worshiping cheaters and writing a billion McGwire/Sosa stories so this is their way of getting them back. Lets face it, after the strike baseball had nothing going for them and it's the records which initially brought the fans and the media back.
Besides.. the NFL is teflon. Look at how bad the strories have to be (Vick, Pacman, etc.) to get coverage. Allen Iverson could get pulled over for a DUI or misdemeanor marijuana possession and we'd hear about it for a month. |
