T-Mac wasn't there. Butch Carter wasn't there. Having the pressure of everyone wanting you to be the next Jordan has to take some toll on his mentality. I'm thinking after falilure in the playoffs he just wanted someone else to take the spotlight. He probably couldn't hack it.
