Re: Who is more Valuable

That's basically the way I think you need to look at it. If all 4 guys played witht he exact same team around them, or if all 4 had a league-average team around them, who would do the best? THAT is who the most valuable is. The players cant control who their teammates are...so why should a superior player be judged as "less valuable" just because his GM did a good job of assembling the team?

It's like the example I gave justifying Derek Jeter for MVP last year...let's say you have a really really rich neighborhood, and the average cost of a house is $5 million, and one house is nicer than all the rest, and costs $6 million. Now you have a middle-class neighborhood, and all the houses cost less than $500,000, but there's one super-duper nice house that costs $2 million. Even though the super-nice house in the middle-class neighborhood is so much more valuable than the resy of the homes in the neighborhood, it's not more valuable than the $6 million house in the affluent neighborhood.

In this case, Brady and Manning are the $6 million house in the rich neighborhood and Favre and Romo are the $2 million house in the middle-class neighborhood

Until this year, I would have said Manning is the most valuable. Brady's accomplishments this year are pretty hard to ignore, though. And really, Brady's supporting cast isnt THAT much different from Manning's 49-TD season. Moss=Harrison, Stallworth=Wayne, Welker=Stokley (and they're both white!), Clark=Watson, both teams have good O-lines... guess we'll see what Brady does the next few years...
