| Re: What would improve England? Well the main problems in my view are these…. Grass Roots
The whole grass roots set up is to blame if you ask me. Kids as young as 8, are being taught how to track back, and the complex tactics of football, when they should just be able to go out there and play to enjoy. Coaches at that level are putting too much emphasis on winning, which is creating unnecessary pressure on these young shoulders.
Do you think Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi had tactics and nutrition drilled into them at a young age? No. They were just allowed to go out an express themselves on a football pitch. They spent time with the ball at their feet. Not doing un necessary circuit training at 12 years old.
You can blame a lot of people at this level, from some of the coaches, parents, and even the FA to a certain degree. Foreign Players
Many people will argue that foreign players are what makes the Premiership the best league in the world (not my view btw), but it is also the reason why the England team is underachieving. Young English players are not being given the chance to show what their capable of. Managers and Chairmen/Owners are acquiring lots of foreigners, not because they may be better than English players, but because they are far cheaper. We’re even seeing now, young players from abroad coming in and being developed by English clubs! So in a way England are shooting themselves in the foot, by nurturing young talent from Spain, Argentina etc.. while leaving their own nationals to slugg it out in the lower leagues.
If you improve these key things, In my view you’d see an improvement in the National side. Unfortunately (or fortunate in other countries views) improvements to these 2 areas will not be able to be done overnight… they will take many, many years. |
