| Re: Griifey Moves up on the list Who's ahead of him? Aaron, Bonds, Ruth, Mays, and Sosa?
He's pretty close to Sosa (only like 15 behind), so even if he only plays one more year than Sosa, he'll probably pass him.
Griffey needs 74 to pass Mays. At this point in Junior's career, that's about three good seasons. Considering he's 37 years old, the earliest he could get to Mays is age 40, and thats assuming he stays healthy. It'll be tough.
I believe 700 is out of the realm of possibility.
It's too bad Griff had so many injuries in Cincinnati. He had 423 HRs through age 30, and could have made a serious run at Hank aaron. He's missed 418 games combined the last 6 seasons (I dont know how many are due to injury and how many are just rest days). He averages almost exactly one home run every 4 games for his career, so add about 100 to his total, and thats an estimate of how many he'd have if he'd stayed healthy. He'd be well past Mays, and knocking on 700's door right now. |
