For the record, I dont think baseball's current economic system is fair, and I fully support a salary cap in baseball, despite the fact that it would most adversely affect my favorite team.

But, as long as the current system is in place, it makes sense for the Yankees to use it to their advantage, and I don't think you can fault them for spending money. They have it, so why not spend it?

When Johan Santana becomes a free agent, will they say "Hmm, we have an extra $150 million to throw at this guy, but you know what, for the sake of fairness, let's let the Angles have hm for $130 million"? Of course not, because that would be a poor business decision, and a poor on-field decision.

And, I stand by my "you can't expect a team to win the World Series every year statement", for all the reasons I previously mentioned. Especially when there are teams like the Cubs (who have PLENTY of money) and the Indians whose fans would kill to see just one world Series championship, never mind the 4 I've seen since my 16th birthday.
