3,000 hits to me is basically a guy that hit well enough to hang around but not necessarily for average.. Pete Rose for example does not have that great of an average for a guy with over 4,000 hits. The all-time hit king.

Steroids or not, 500 home runs is 500 home runs. I don't see too many guys hanging around to get 500... You either have a lot of power or you don't.

I guess I'm trying to say that 3,000 hits is more misleading.. Biggio is another guy that in my opinion was never a GREAT player.. just good.

The debate over how easy it is to hit a home run these days is a different argument.
