Beginner Fantasy Football guide

GRIFFORD’S Fantasy Football Beginners guide:

The Draft

We will have a draft on our Monks home page in the North American Sports forum. Each pick will be timed between the hours of 9-5 CST. And will be help M-F when the draft begins. Anyone overseas can designate someone to pick for them if they are not available at this time. You will have 1 hour to make your pick after the person in front of you picks. If you do not pick in that time you will be skipped over and the people behind you will be able to pick ahead of you. You may make up your pick at anytime after your time has passed, but the longer you take the more people will be able to jump ahead of you. You will keep the same pick position so being late will not effect your later picks, just the round you are currently in. We will pick one round at a time before moving on to another to allow all people in that round to make a selection.

To designate the order in which we pick, I have assigned a # to each letter from A-P. Each person will be asked to pick a letter in the order in which they signed up and the number assigned to that letter will be that persons # in the draft order. I will take the remainder as I am the only one to see this list.

I will also post a breakdown of last years top scorers per position to help keep track of who is available and who would be best to pick.

Team Breakdown – 16 team League
Each roster will consist of 14 NFL players. Owners may select a starting lineup each week from these 14 players. The chart below lists the required number of players at each position for the 'starting lineup' and the 'draft'.

Position
1 - Quarterback (QB)
2 - Running Back (RB)
2 - Wide Receiver (WR)
1 - Tight End (TE)
1 - Kicker (K)
1 - Defensive Team
8 - All Positions (starters)

You will be allowed 6 back ups to spread out as well in case of injury, someone getting hot, or to fill in for someone on the bye week for your team.

Scoring

Point Values
Each week your team will compete against another team in your league in a head-to-head matchup. During a matchup, each of the players in your 'starting lineup' ('active' players) for that week will earn points based on their actual statistics from NFL games. The charts below list the statistics and their corresponding point values.

Scoring for Offensive Categories
FG - Field Goals 3 points /plus 2 points for a FG of 50+ Yds
FL - Fumble Lost, Including ST plays -2 points
Pa2P - Passing Two-point Conversion 2 points
PaInt - Passing Interception -2 points
PaTD - Passing TD 6 points
PaYd - Passing Yards 0+ PaYds = 1 point for every 25 PaYds
Re2P - Receiving Two-point Conversion 2 points
ReTD - Receiving TD 6 points
ReYd - Receiving Yards 0+ ReYds = 1 point for every 10 ReYds
Ru2P - Rushing Two-point Conversion 2 points
RuTD - Rushing TD 6 points
RuYd - Rushing Yards 0+ RuYds = 1 point for every 10 RuYds
XP - Extra Points 1 point

Scoring for Defensive Categories

DFR - Defensive/ST Fumble Recovered (ID/DT/DST) 2 points
DTD - Total Defensive and Special Teams TD 6 points
Int - Interceptions 2 points
PA - Points Against, Total Points Scored -
0 - 6 PA = 8 points 7 - 13 PA = 6 points 14 - 20 PA = 4 points 21 - 27 PA = 2 points
SACK - Sack 1 point
STY - Safety 2 points
YDS - Yards Allowed
0 - 49 YDSs = 12 points 50 - 99 YDSs = 10 points 100 - 149 YDSs = 8 points
150 - 199 YDSs = 200 - 249 YDSs = 4 points 250 - 299 YDSs = 2 points

Wins & Losses

For each head-to-head matchup, the team with the greater number of points will earn a Win and the team with the lesser number a Loss. During the regular season, if two teams have the same number of points, each team will get a Tie. During the playoffs, there are no ties, and the team with the highest number of points scored by its 'reserve' (bench) players in that playoff game will be the winner. If this doesn't break the tie, then the team with the higher playoff seed gets the Win.

NOTES

· Offensive Scoring (QB, RB, WR, TE, K) Any offensive player will receive points for any offensive statistics he accumulates. Scoring will be calculated according to the following example: If a QB throws for 200 yards and 2 TDs; rushes for 20 yards and 1 TD; and has 25 yards receiving, his point total for the week would be: 3 TDs = 18 points, 200yds Passing = 8 points, 20yds Rushing = 2 points, 25yds receiving = 2 points; or 30 total points for the week.

· Defensive / Special Team scoring Your defense is awarded points when any one of its members generates either a TD, INT, fumble recovery, safety or sack. Your defense is also awarded points for a kickoff or punt return that results in a TD. For instance, if your active defense is the Redskins, and Antwaan Randle El returns a punt for a TD, you get 6 points. In the same situation, a team using Randle El as an active WR would NOT be awarded points.

· Fumbles Lost by a player on special teams or defense will lose 2 points if they turn the ball over to the opposing team. For instance, if you have Antwaan Randle El active at WR and he fumbles the ball away at any time while he is on the field, your team will lose 2 points. This includes a fumble lost while returning a punt, kick, interception (if your WR were playing defense) or while on offense at WR.

· Defensive Points Allowed will take into account ALL the points allowed by the team as a whole. This includes points scored against the offense (TD from an interception, safeties, etc.) and special teams (punt return for a TD) as well as those scored against the defense.

· Defensive Touchdowns are any touchdowns scored by the defensive team. This includes fumble returns and interception returns.

· Special Teams Touchdowns are touchdowns scored by punt returns, kickoff returns or returns of blocked kicks or punts.

· To calculate the Total Yards Allowed, simply add the other team's Total Rushing and Total Passing Yards gained.

· Rounding will NOT be used when calculating points from statistics. For example, 49 yards rushing will result in 4 points, not 5.

Trades – All legal and allowed unless
Team owners vote - In Standard Leagues, 4 out of 16 team owners must vote to veto a trade in order to have it cancelled.

Transactions Overview
Teams can make changes to their lineup throughout the week. Players may be moved in or out of a team's active lineup based on the rules in place for your leagues. Custom Leagues may have players locking at the start of their individual gametimes, or all players on your roster may lock once the first NFL game of the week begins (check your league settings to determine what your league manager selected). For Standard Leagues each player becomes locked at their current position in the active lineup or bench at the time their team is scheduled to kick off each week. The lone exceptions are those players who are scheduled to play on Monday night. Players in Monday night's game must be inserted into a team's active roster by 2:59 a.m. ET Monday for their stats to count. Once locked, players may not be moved again until 3:00 a.m. ET on Tuesday. At that time, owners may begin making changes for the following week of fantasy competition but may not change their roster for the week just concluding. Be sure to check the NFL Scores and Schedule prior to each week of NFL play.

Activating/Benching Players
You decide which players to start for each week of games. The Team page allows you to analyze each of your current players, review their year-to-date and previous week's performance, and freely move players between your active roster and bench. As detailed in transactions (above), roster moves involving a player may be made right up until that player is scheduled to begin play for the week.

When you make transactions during the week you must move a player to the bench or waivers when moving a player to the starting lineup. If you make a move that violates a roster slot, an error message will appear notifying you to double check the proposed transaction to ensure that you are moving players to available slots. Fantasy Football allows team owners in both Customizable and Standard leagues the ability to modify their lineups for future weeks of NFL action. This can prove to be helpful if you will not have access to a computer (on vacation, business trip etc.) but you would like to make sure that you are receiving credit for players at each team roster slot. Go to your Team page and click on the links for the Week (3,4,5 etc.) of interest to access your roster page for each future date. Then modify your roster. Please keep in mind that if you make any roster moves in the interim (adding/dropping a player or players) this will delete or clear any roster selections you made for future weeks.

Adding/Dropping Players
There are many players available in the player pool (those players not currently on a team in your league) who you may want to pick up for your squad. The player pool may be searched by position from the Players page. These unsigned players are available to add to your team at all times that a player is not frozen. Each week, players are frozen -- may not be added to a team's roster, cut, or traded -- from the time they begin play until the end of the Monday night game. At that point in time, the waiver period within your league (if you have one) will then begin. Please see the waivers explanation for both Custom and Standard Leagues to determine the schedule that your league uses. When all slots on a roster are filled, a team must drop a player before or during the addition of a new player.

Waiver Period
If Waivers are used, team owners must wait until the time that a player spends on waivers elapses before the waiver claim is processed. If the player on Waivers is not selected and the waiver period expires, he automatically becomes a free agent. If a specific day length is selected all available players lock at their team's scheduled kickoff time and the waiver periods begins at 3am ET on Tuesday mornings, according to this schedule

Our waiver period will be - 1 Day - Waivers process on Wednesdays (Wed).
