| Re: Current England team I'd probably go -
GK - Ben Foster - I'm not convinced about Robinson at all. Bad on crosses, good reflexes but certainly nothing special in World terms. I think Foster has the potential to be a lot better
RB - Micah Richards - I've been a fan of Red Nev for quite some time, I'm sorry I like the guy!! But Richards is going to be seriously excellent and has much more about his game, particularly in possession and going forward. I see no reason to be patient with him!
LB - Ashley Cole - I'm a Palace fan, so may be a little biased (he's adored at Selhurst!). The guy is just incredibly good. Even if he is an ignorant twat!
CB - John Terry - I've still not seen him playing too well for England. But he's the best of the lot.
CB - Ledley King - I dislike Ferdinand, who's gone backwards since he peaked at the 2002 World Cup. King is very calm, good in possession for a CB and outstanding quick. He'd be my version of what Gallas does in the centre of France's defence.
CM - Owen Hargreaves - I'm not awestruck with Hargreaves. He plays at a good tempo but his passing and link play isn't what I'd ideally want. Bottom line though, is I can't think of anyone better to sit in front of the back four. Carrick isn't what I want, Barton is box to box, Lamps doesn't work with Gerrard, I'm pretty stuck here.
CM - Steven Gerrard - I'm a firm believer that Gerrard and Lampard can't work together in the centre of midfield and, as we've seen at Liverpool since he went back to the centre, it's the place Gerrard shines best. I'd want my team to play an up tempo English game, so Gerrard would be better suited than Lamps.
RM - Kieron Dyer - Good finisher, pacey, beats people, works well, links play well between midfield and forward line and, if I need to change tactics, very versatile too.
LM - Gareth Barry - Whilst I do like the guy, and it is very close with a pack of players in this position, I've put Barry there for reasons all alluding to the team and to balance. Basically (a) he's a natural left footer (b) he sits instead of "bombing on" so balances both Ashley Cole's desire to get beyond him and Gerrards desire to vacate the centre and move on and lastly (c) we keep conceding goals at set plays, putting Barry, an ex centre back and Richards...phenomenal in the air, in my side gives me more height and awareness in those areas
CF - Wayne Rooney. In the centre, just playing behind a guy with pace. It's the best position for him and gets the best out of him
CF - Michael Owen - Obviously not right now, which presents a problem!!
Manager - Over 50 caps for England, played for a massive club, played in Europe and at a World Cup, ex Head of the PFA, Worked with the FA too, not going to embarrass us all with cliches or any other rubbish, miracles at every club he's played at (except for a one month stint at Man City!)......my choice is Sir Steve
