Smackdown Results - 1/23/07

Dark Match: Bob Holly over Chavo Guerrero. Of course, Holly gets a giganto-pop from his hometown.

Smackdown Starts

Batista over Gregory Helms via Batista Bomb. (Not a squash, but they didn't go out of their way to make Helms look good either. Solid match.)

The show was main evented by the 6 man over-the-top battle royal featuring Benoit, the Miz, Kane, King Booker, FINLAY, and MVP. For some reason, these 6 men had singles matchups with each other throughout the show.

Benoit over The Miz via the Crossface. (Basic Benoit carryjob here. Still, another solid match. Finish was pretty cool. Benoit gave Miz a Dragonscrew Leg Whip and attempted to apply the Sharpshooter, but when Miz flipped over on his stomach to block....as he'd done several times in the match...Benoit leaped down and snagged him with the Crossface. Sounds simple, but it was really snappy and quick.)

Duece & Domino over some jobbers via THE BIG KICK TO THE FACE. (Exactly like their match from last week. Big news this week......The greasers now drive an old fashioned convertible to the ring.)

King Booker over Finlay via DQ (I think that was the finish. They never announced a decision, but Finlay pushed the ref down while brawling with Booker on the outside and that's when the ref called for the bell, so that's what I'm assuming. Match was kinda slow, but I'm pretty sure that was intentional. Sharmell did commentary and was assaulted by the Little Bastard.)

--At some point in the middle of all of this, Michael Cole goes out into the crowd and does a brief interview with Vladmir Koslov (Oleg Prundius). Typical interview from him in which he talks about how he could win the Royal Rumble by eliminating the "49 other men" and then drops his "Double Double E" catchphrase. Oh, and it was hard to tell, but I'm fairly certain he screwed up and referred to himself as "Oleg Prundius" in the middle of all this.

MNM def. London/Kendrick & Ashley in a 6 person intergender tag match via the Snapshot on Kendrick. (Not very long, but just as good as you would expect from MNM and London/Kendrick. Those two teams have great chemistry. London bumped like a freak tonight.)

--Kennedy came out to cut a promo on his Rumble match with Batista. Batista interrupted him and challenged Kennedy to slap him in the face again. Before Kennedy could......the lights went out and Undertaker appeared in the ring. Taker tried to boot Kennedy, but he moved and...of course...hit Big Dave instead.

Kane defeated MVP via DQ after MVP used a chair. (However, this match was actually pretty good. Probably the best on the show, next to the 6 person tag. The match is built around Kane torturing MVP's burnt back for the opening minutes until MVP snaps and goes all MMA on him. From there the violence logically escelates until MVP resorts to using a chair on Kane. MVP pulled a tank of gasoline out from under the ring and tried to set Kane on fire with it, but Kane turned the tables and MVP fled.)

The 6 Man Over-The-Top Battle Royal went to a No Contest. (Again....I assume. No decision was announced to the best of my recollection. FINLAY eliminated Kane first by using DA GOLDEN SCEPTA on him. After a few more minutes, the lights went out again.....and Undertaker was in the ring again. He goes after everybody in the ring, and its unclear if he's making himself an unoffical entrant or if the match is just thrown out completely. Either way, Smackdown ends with Undertaker STANDING TALL~!!! over everybody else. This was actually a really fun finish, though.)
