I dont really see how you can think that he shouldnt be considered better than Smith. I saw a stat the other day that showed the number of NBA all stars that played for Smith and Knight. Smith had like 12 or 14 and Knight had one. The talent that Knight had was below that of what Smith had and if Knight had not been fired he would have gotten to 1000 wins.
To do what knight did with the talent of players and to the graduation rate that he still has today is phenomenal. Knight will take a kid that wants to work and graduate over a player that just wants to come to college for a year and get to the NBA as fast as possible.
Yes I am a little biased towards Knight but I still think he is the best coach of all time.
