| Nice to see mock drafts in place already, good work, but there's quite a bit I have to question as well.
First of all, I don't see nearly that many QB's going in the 1st round for a variety of reasons. the main reason being, a lot of the guys mentioned here I think of as maybe late 2nd or 3rd rounders at best. To take them w/ the 1st pick when it's clear they have other needs is a stretch.
Lets look at St. Louis and Carolina specifically. Do you really think the Rams are tired of Marc Bulger? Like him or not, his numbers aren't bad, he's played fairly well for them. I just can;t see them selecting a QB this early. With the Panthers, Jake is their leader. He's not a great QB but I think they have faith in him, and didn't he also sign a longterm deal? Can't see them going this high with a QB either.
Also, I don't see Ginn or Jarrett going that low in the 1st round, especially Jarrett at 25. The guy just put on a show vs. Notre Dame which every scout, GM, whoever must have seen.. If he wasn't a top 10-15 pick before that game, he has to be now.
I agree with you on Troy Smith. A lot of people saw him as a late 1st rounder for weeks, but because he's played so incredibly well, I could see him going a lot higher. That appears to be the trend, just look at Vince Young. He wasn't projected anywhere near the top of the draft, but after he put on those awesome Rose Bowl performances back-to-back teams were afraid to pass up on a possible superstar. Looks like the titans have themselves a QB out of it too. |
