Mike’s Mock 2007 Draft- Last Updated on 12/24/06 1. Oakland Raiders - Brady Quinn, QB, Notre Dame. Let’s face it, Oakland needs a QB and here it’s either Troy Smith or Brady Quinn. Brady is NFL Ready out of the box. Smith will need some tooling, so Quinn is the pick here. 2. Detroit Lions - Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville. Right here again Detroit needs a reliable QB, if Brohm declares I think it will be either him or JaMarcus Russell of LSU. But I’m not going to underestimate Millen; he could go to Calvin Johnson from GT. If neither declares, it’s probably Smith or OT Joe Thomas 3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Gaines Adams, DE, Clemson. Face it Tampa, you're line is not getting any younger, in comes Adams, the best pass rusher in this draft by far. No doubt in my mind that Tampa will use this pick on a Defensive Player, Quinn Pitcock might go here also. 4. Cleveland Browns - Joe Thomas, OT, Wisconsin. If the three above teams didn’t have a worse need, he’d go earlier, Cleveland’s happy because now they have a solid Left Tackle. Also I could see the Brownies trading this pick. 5. Arizona Cardinals - Levi Brown, OT, Penn State. They need linemen, and that’s all there is to it. If Cleveland or any of the above teams listen to offers, Arizona could be a potential buyer so they can get Joe Thomas, if not they might trade down and take Levi Brown. 6. Houston Texans - Adrian Peterson, HB, Oklahoma. After being nearly crucified after not taking Bush/Young last year, the Texans make it up by taking Peterson, a good overall pick and if the above teams didn’t have solid running games he’d be taken higher. Also depends if Peterson declares since he is a Junior. 7. Washington Redskins - Leon Hall, DB, Michigan. Here’s the scoop, Shawn Springs the current CB turns 32 in March, which unless you’re named Darrell or Deion is pretty old for DB. So they take Hall, who has had a solid year at Michigan. I also see them trading this pick and also remember, if Washington and Denver are separated by less than 12 picks they swap as a part of the T.J. Duckett, Ashley Lelie deal. As of now they aren’t so it’s either Hall, a trade, or LaRon Landry from LSU 8. Minnesota Vikings - Calvin Johnson, WR, Georgia Tech. Hopefully this pick will do better than the last first-round receiver Minnesota took, aka “Mr. Drop the Ball” Troy Williamson. The Vikings already have a great talent in Tarvaras Jackson at QB, so I don’t think they will take a QB. Johnson’s size, speed and athleticism makes him a Top 5 pick if not for the top 7 teams depth at WR. 9. Carolina Panthers - Troy Smith, QB, Ohio State. As we have found out this year, The Panthers need a.)Depth at the QB and b.) A future QB. Smith fits both, Delhomme might have a couple years left in him and Smith can develop. I think this would be ideal for Troy Smith. If Smith isn’t available I could see them taking Gaines Adams of Clemson to replace the aging Mike Rucker, or possibly a linebacker. 10. San Fransisco 49ers - Ted Ginn, WR, Ohio State. After Vernon Davis as their pick this past year yet another offensive compliment to Frank Gore and Alex Smith. Probably would go earlier if he stayed at Ohio State one more year. Great Reciever, good hands and excellent speed. 11. Miami Dolphins - Patrick Willis, ILB, Ole Miss. Quietly became one of the best ILB in the nation at Ole Miss. Look for a trade here for Miami to move down or move up and take an OL prospect. Also don’t be surprised if they go QB or DL as both positions need help and somewhat aging. Especially the DL 12. St. Louis Rams - Marcus McCauley, CB, Fresno State. St. Louis needs an upgrade at DB, whether by Free Agent or other means they need help. Marcus is probably one of the most talented corners in this draft next to Leon Hall. 13. Green Bay Packers - Jeff Samardzija, WR, Notre Dame. Boy, if this year has shown us anything about these Green Bay Packers it’s that they can’t catch. And Driver is getting pretty old at 31. In the season which might be Favre’s last, Samardzija could make him a winner in his final year. 14. Pittsburgh Steelers - Quinn Pitcock, DT, Ohio State. How much can change in one year? They go from the Super Bowl Champions to 14th pick. They get some much needed depth at DT and a possible force to be reckoned with. Good two-gap tackle. Can also play DE in a 3-4. Look for a Safety to compliment Polamalu; possibly LaRon Landry. 15. Buffalo Bills - Drew Stanton, QB, Michigan State. I was in Buffalo with my girlfriend in October and boy are they sick of J.P. Losman. Hopefully they take Stanton or possibly trade up for some much, much, much needed OL help. 16. Atlanta Falcons - Kenny Irons, HB, Auburn. Warrick Dunn is not getting any younger, Jerious Norwood could force Atlanta to look elsewhere such as a LB or OL because neither position is young anymore. Also don't rule out a WR, Atlanta has invested quite a bit in failed 1st rounders. Whether it's the recievers or Vick's anemic QB skills is yet to be determined 17. Tennessee Titans - Amobi Okoye, DL, Louisville. Once drafted he will be the youngest player ever taken in the NFL Draft, at 19 years old. He will probably play DE for the Titans, as they have two solid tackles in Haynesworth and Starks. Also look for the Titans to trade up to get OL help. 18. Kansas City Chiefs - Dwayne Jarrett, WR, USC. They finally take a WR after about four years of needing a true go-to-guy besides Tony Gonzalez. Jarrett dazzled this year and could be taken higher. Either way I think they go WR or QB. 19. New York Giants - Sidney Rice, WR, South Carolina. Since Tom doesn't seem to like Tim "Pride of the SEC" Carter, why not get another SEC WR? Seriously though reminds some people of Troy Williamson, minus the fact that Rice can make the big catch and has more than just sprinter speed. 20. Philadelphia Eagles - LaRon Landry, S, LSU. A Brian Dawkins likes safety so he’ll be best suited as his potential replacement once Dawkins retires. I can also see the Eagles trading up or down depending on who declares. Another need is Interior Lineman. 21. New York Jets - .Marcus Thomas, DT, Florida. According to Eric Mangini's forumla, build from the lines, and I think he will continue this philosphy into this year taking Marcus Thomas a talented DT from Florida. 22. Denver Broncos - Kenneth Darby, HB, Alabama. Tatum Bell seems to have worn out his welcome in Denver. Can’t say Bell is disappointing as a 2nd round pick but not the best either. Another option for the Broncos would be Defensive Line. 23. Cincinnati Bengals - Adam Carriker, DE, Nebraska. Good DE to take over for disappointing Justin Smith. His honeymoon in Cincinnati is definitely over. Carriker can rush the passer and also drop back into coverage. Another possibility is LaMarr Woodley from Michigan as a hybrid DE/LB 24. Jacksonville Jaguars - Tom Zbikowski, S, Notre Dame. If Donovin Darius could stay healthy perhaps they could go elsewhere. Unfortunately Darius has had a string of injuries and isn’t getting any younger. Look also for them to take LaMarr Woodley. 25. New England Patriots(from Seattle{Deion Branch})- LaMarr Woodley, LB/DE, Michigan. If he falls this far rejoice Boston, Perfect partner for Richard Seymour to take the pressure off of him. Fast for a DE but Weak, and Average speed at a LB. So he’d fit perfectly into Bill Belichick’s system 26. Dallas Cowboys - Paul Posluszny, LB, Penn State. Another one that’s hard to believe that he would fall this far but Cowboys fans should be pumped. Drew comparisons to A.J. Hawk and however much exaggerated, they still exist. A tough hard-nose Joe Paterno product. 27. New Orleans Saints - Matt Spaeth, TE, Minnesota. Hey Drew! Remember Antonio Gates? Sure ya do, well here meet Antonio Gates who can block. Really Spaeth is perhaps the most underrated player going into this draft. He will be good no matter where he goes, mark my words. Consider OLB Rufus Alexander a part of this mix also along with LaMarr Woodley. 28. New England Patriots - Daymeion Hughes, CB, California. What New England will do with this pick I have no idea, they could go Defense, or they could build another line from the draft. Bill Belichick is very hard to read on draft day. 29. Indianapolis Colts - Quentin Moses, DE/DT, Georgia. Rejoice Indianapolis your run-stopping savior is here. A good two-gap player can clog holes and eat blocks. Moses could free up Corey Simon, Anthony McFarland, and Dwight Freeney/Robert Mathis to rush the passer more. Also they might take a look at Rufus Alexander. 30. Baltimore Ravens - Michael Bush, HB, Louisville. Coming back for his senior year at Louisville hurt him, literally. Physically and financially, could have been a Top 10 pick last year as the ‘Other Bush’. However the Jamal Lewis fiasco might come to an end in Baltimore. 31. Chicago Bears - Jason Hill, WR, Washington State. Face it, Muhsin Muhammad is not what he used be. He's getting old and they are in need of a replacement. Jason Hill could fit the bill here. 32. San Diego Chargers - Dwayne Bowe, WR, LSU. There biggest need as evidenced this year. May not seem like it but I think a playmaker like Bowe could help the Chargers tremendously. It would be awesome to see a Passing game that goes for 400+ and then a Running game that goes for 200+ Will Update every week or so. Hope you enjoy and that this causes much debate! |
