| UFC fights in upcoming months Unfortunately, the Tito Oritz-Ken Shamrock feud is not done yet. The two will meet for a third time, this time on Spike TV, on the 10/10 UFC TV special. Shamrock has announced that he will retire regardless of the outcome, after the fight. Of course, we all know barring a miracle Ortiz is going to slaughter Shamrock once again.
B.J. Penn is also rumored to be fighting on the 10/10 card.
Matt Hughes-Georges St. Pierre will be the main event of UFC 63, which takes place in Sept. in California. Hughes defeated Pierre back in '04 with an armbar with 1 second left in round one. This fight should be great and many (myself included) think St. Pierre will take down the reigning welterweight champ.
Wanderlei Silva-Chuck Liddell was tentatively scheduled for Nov., but we'll have to see if that stands since Liddell fights "Babalu" Sobral in a few weeks and Silva is fighting Mirko "Cro Cop" in the semifinals of the Pride Open Weight Grand Prix in Sept. I wouldn't be surprised to see this fight pushed back a couple of months to let one or both guys heal.
Oh, and what many have called the best fight in UFC history, will have its rematch in three weeks as Season One of the Ultimate Fighter winner Forrest Griffin takes on runner-up Stephan Bonnar. The two had a classic three-round slugfest back in April '05. I think Griffin wins this one, too, and hopefully he gets either a rematch against Oritz or perhaps a fight against his former coach on TUF, Liddell. |
