| I love how people seem to believe that an official language will change the problems with language in this country.
Do illegal immigrants own Chinese restaurants, work the subways, etc? No, they don't. Even these Republicans, who don't mind destroying their own party, admit that it's symbolic and not much else. The problem, as a symbolic law, is that when the majority changes, and it will and we all know it, it will just as easily be changed to something else for the same reason.
All this does is embolden a few politicians who have sinking poll numbers. Unfortunately it doesn't change or save anything, not even English. |
