Saw these "new space age ventilated 13% lighter" CoolFlo batting helmets for the first time today on the Mets and Cubs televised Spring Training games.
Wonder if Mark knows about these and if they're being incorporated into new upcoming figures?
I think they're ugly as sin, especially the Mets two tone version.
The Mets are even using the two tone on the regular shaped helmets:
11 teams have opted to use these CoolFlo helmets this year, with seven teams using them already in Spring Training (Cubs, Mets, Dodgers, Diamondbacks, Devil Rays, and Angels). The Twins, A's, Braves and Padres will start wearing them when the season opens. Here's pics of the other five clubs:
Don't they realize how long it's going to take Vladdy to pine tar this brand new puppy up? ;)
I'm sure traditionalists are having a hard time with this. Ventilated so that players don't overheat? Is this really necessary with the length of the average at bat?
What's next? This? So that players can run faster to first base?
Maybe they're selling the players on these, telling them that the ventilation will keep their head from sweating, and they'll keep their hair longer... ;)
This just in.... Will Clark and Wally Joyner wish these helmets were invented twenty years ago.... ;)
