Not to ride the Johnny Depp bandwagon too hard, but I can't see how on Earth you could ever say Cruise's career has been better, or more diversified, than Depp's.

Edward Scissorhands
Ed Wood
Donnie Brasco
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Benny and Joon
Gilbert Grape
Pirates of the Caribbean
Finding Neverland
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Chocolat
Blow

The list even does go on and on but it's late and I forget. Fact is, if you think TOM CRUISE plays the widest range of roles in Hollywood, you're fucked.

And when you say "he's the only effing actor who has made it big, this side of the 1970's who actually realizes how important it is to surround yourself with a good director, good script, other good actors, technicians, producers, etc.", why are you being so hard on a guy like Tom Hanks, who has done the same thing, only successfully?
