| As a Mets fan, I thought Phillips did a great job the first couple of years he was there....remember they did make the playoffs in 99 and went to the World Series a year later. After that he did take on the terrible contracts of Vaughn and Alomar, but I'm sure we'd all be signing his praises if those guys had worked out. He wasn't building for the future, he was trying to win immediately. I think he was too caught up in trying to compete with the Yankees than trying to build the Mets into a perennial contender...but I think he's learned from his mistakes and would be a good GM for a team in the future.
