| Bull#$%@. I won't get too into it, but check this out:
In a game of university flag football, the score is 21-21 (1 score = 7 pts). I'm the quarterback. We get the ball back on our own goalline with time enough for "4 more plays." Okay.
First play: Play-action, I hit a receiver streaking across midfield; he blasts through everybody all the way down the field for a score. No wait, the whistle blew. Referee tells me he thought our guy was flagged down. Ball is spotted at midfield.
Second play: We run the same play, only with a different receiver. He catches the ball, falls forward into the endzone for the touchdown. Whistle. Referee spots the ball on the goalline. I wish I knew why.
Third play: Hand off on an end-around. Our guy bursts through three of their guys into the end zone for a score. Whistle. Referee tells me our guy was blocking his flags, and spots it an inch from the goalline.
Fourth play: I line up in shotgun, snap it to myself, dump it forward to our guy for a touchdown. No. Unlike the other times I lined up in shotgun, this time it's illegal. 5-yard penalty, repeat 4th down.
Fifth play: We run the same play. Somehow I avoid a really nasty pass rush, spin and dump it off on the same route to the last guy. Touchdown. Celebration? Whistle. Referee tells me I stepped on the line of scrimmage, therefore the play is dead, the game is over.
21-21. Game over. |
