Reinsdorf always said that he couldn't sign the big money FAs if the fans didn't fill the stands. It was kind of a catch-22...the fans wouldn't go to games cause the teams sucked, but the teams were gonna suck as long as fans didn't go to the games. So Kenny Williams came up with some creative ways of obtaining players on the cheap and voila...here we are.
Now, this year they recorded the fourth highest attendance total in franchise history. If they do NOT pay Konerko (who has stated he wants to remain with the Sox) WHATEVER he asks, then most likely Comiskey Park will be a ghost town next year.
As I've said before, we're not Cub fans.
Anyway, Konerko is pretty much Mr. White Sox. He's incredibly popular out here, and he will most likely be able to turn that ALCS MVP trophy (and any other hardware he might earn over the next 2 weeks) into some major income via endorsements locally. |
