There are tons of writers in Hollywood who make a really decent living, but the harsh part is that for a lot of these people they never actually have anything they write produced. That is, they sell the rights to big film and TV companies, but the project gets thrown out a year or so later. I've heard screenwriters have a fairly high rate of depression because of this.

It just sounds tougher to get in and be successful.. Hopefully I'll find out, I really want something that's creative.
