| It's a real shame how he went out though. For a guy to eclipse Gordie Howe for second all time on the scoring list, and play for an amazing twenty-six professional seasons, his retirement seemed like a blip on the radar.
Mess played with such a ferocity and passion, that if these two attributes could be measured, they would never be toppled. The lockout forced a quiet retirement for one of the game's loudest players.
On a side note, one of my favourite players of all time, and to what I still believe is the most underrated (right up with Marcel Dionne) retired today. Ron (nie Franchise) Francis hung them up after twenty three seasons unnoticed seasons. Two Stanley Cups, three Lady Byng Trophies, and second all time in assists with 1,249, and little respect. |
