Rooney doesn't play as an up and up striker he likes the freedom to wonder, so he can't really play as the lone striker up front, a player like Alan Shearer is best at that. And also by sticking one up front you've got less targets for when crosses come from wide.

Ryan Giggs played is heart out for Wales today, it's a shame the players around it are a level below what he's used to playing with. Our goalkeeper Danny Coyne was supurb, in previous matches he's lost his concentration and droped clangers that David James would have been proud of! When Earnie came on he was a real handfull, Rio couldn't cope, he was pulling and tugging at his shirt all the time.

Overall we showed a good structure and defended well, we gave possesion away far too easily but that's something that'll come from these players playing more together. We're playing more like a team now than we did under Hughes, so hopfully the future of Welsh football is bright.

Oh and one last thing.... England aint winning no world cup playing like that!
Im with you on the 4-5-1 theory.

Teams like Chelsea make it work week in week out with dedicated wingers (robben, duff, wright-phillips etc) ans instead of pushing the wingers wide (as Beckham did with every ball) they play tight introspective passing. The thing is England cant do this because they dont train and play with each other week in week out.

Overall I think this entire thing is down to Beckham trying to secure his place. Well I can respect what he has brought to the England team over the past 8 years it is very plain to see his engine does not run as it did 4 years back when he went flat out 90 mins every time he pulled on an England shirt. Now faced with the prospect that SWP is a far better player in his posistion he has tried to create a role for himself with Sven as a play maker. All well and good but when you have Steven Gerrard who naturally takes up the posistions Becks tried to play today, and who distributes the ball at least equally good if not better it's time to give up. I think the armband should now pass to Terry or Gerrard and Beckham should face up to battling SWP for his place. Time will tell who is the better player and indeed sometimes Beckham's cooler head and range of passing will beat SWP's pace and flair, but at the end of the day Beckham has got to see that he isnt England's driving force anymore, and more importantly so should Sven.

PS - was lamps there today because he sure didnt show up on TV

I had a sig, once.
