Opening Lines

I was having a rather high-brow (for me) discussion with some friends, and we were trying to decide what our favourite opening lines were from books.

My vote went for "Last night, I dreamt I went to Manderlay, again" from Rebecca, by Daphne Du Maurier. It's very emotive. Does anyone else have any particular favourites, or is this subject too high brow for you, too?

Tomorrow's Just An Excuse Away,
So I Pull My Collar Up And Face The Cold, On My Own.
The Earth Laughs Beneath My Heavy Feet,
At The Blasphemy In My Old Jangly Walk.
