I think there will always be a need for at least some form of currency. Debit and credit cards are fine for when you need to buy something from a store, but what about between two individual people?

What happens when I say to my friend, "I bet you twenty bucks I can dunk a basketball?" and we make a bet and I need to pay? Or, a friend comes over to my house and says "I'll give you 5 bucks for that old CD you never listen to any more. I doubt it'll ever get to the point that we have credit card machines in our own houses.

There has to be a way for there to be little transactions like that, and cash serves as a convenient way to do so. So unless we devise a way to easily transfer funds between two individuals, I dont see cash going away
