MLB draft

Well, today is Day 1 of the 254,783,293,933 round Major League Baseball draft. A bunch of guys that none of us ahve ever heard of will get drafted, their agents will hold them out for more money, and maybe in five years they'll do something noteworthy...

This was the first round in 2001:

1. Joe Mauer
2. Mark Prior
3. Dewon Brazleton
4. Gavin Floyd
5. Mark Texeira
6. Josh Karp
7. Christopher Smith
8. John van Benschoten
9. Jonathon Griffin
10. Chris Burke
11. Kenneth Baugh
12. Michael Jones
13. Casey Kotchman
14. Jacob Gautreau
15. Gabe Gross
16. Kristopher Honel
17. Daniel Denham
18. Aaron Heilman
19. Michael Fontenont
20. Jeremy Sowers
21. Brad Hennessey
22. Jason Bulger
23. John-Ford Griffin
24. Joseph McBride
25. Bobby Crosby
26. Jeremy Bonderman
27. William Horne
28. Justin Pope
29. Joshua Burress
30. Noah Lowry

The only names I recognize are Mauer, Prior, Brazleton (but he sucks), Texeira, Heilman, Crosby, Bonderman, and Lowry

After that, the Mets took David Wright 38th overall as a "sandwich" pick (whatever that means)

that means that 4 years after that draft, there are two All-Star caliber players (Prior and Texeira), two pretty good players (Mauer and Bonderman), a couple of average big leaguers, and 35 guys who havent even sniffed the majors (if you count the 14 sandwich picks besides Wright)

The second round produced Dallas MacPherson, Kelly Shoppach, Brandon League, and Dan Haren...not exactly a Murderers Row
