| Best SS in MLB So now that A-Rod is at 3rd for maybe the rest of his career who do you think is the best SS in baseball? If A-Rod would have stayed at SS I'd probably still give him the nod. So lets see...
Miguel Tejada-Baltimore: In the field he's not the best...he makes a lot of flashy plays but fucks up some routine grounders. At the plate he's been getting better and better or should I say scarier and scarier...he's a monster. Last year he had 150 RBI and probably around 30 homers. He's good for around a .290-.315 average on a given year.
Jimmy Rollins-Philly: Might be the best glove of all the SS but can't hit a lick...at least not compared to the others. Not the best..but solid.
Rafael Furcal-ATL: Kid has blazin' speed...can turn a routine ground ball into a hit if you don't hurry. He's gotten some real pop in his bat of late too. He used to be just a single/double guy but has the potential to hit 15-20 HRs a year now. My fav. in the NL but then again I'm a Braves fan...lol
Derek Jeter-NYY: He makes all the plays in the field and does all the little things you can ask of someone. In the playoffs he is flat out scary..With the game on the line he might be the most feared guy in baseball outside of Bonds. However, in the regular season he has dropped off a lot. I remember when he used to hit like .330+ and now he's around .295 and doesn't drive in many runs either. I know he's basically the leadoff man now, but in that lineup a leadoff man could drive in over a 100 easy...look at Johnny Damon last year with the sox. Jeter is a GREAT player though.
Nomar Garciaparra-CHI C: A couple year ago was known as maybe the best pure hitter in baseball. His lifetime average I believe was around .325. I remember one year when he hit like .370. He used to hit around 30-35 homers as well. Now he's been so injured the last two years I don't know what to say...his defense is suspect as well. Used to be one of my fav. players.
Edgar Renteria-Boston: Very good hitter. Doesn't hit many homers but in Boston that could change. With runners in scoring position he is a monster and is a very good hitter in the playoffs as he has proven in Florida and STL. He's a former Gold Glove winner as well. He's perfect for the two spot in the Red Sox lineup. If he stays healthy he should drive in near 100 runs.
So what do you think? If I forgot anyone let me know...I wrote this up rather quickly. Personally, I love Tejada the more I see of him so he'd probably be my pick if I had to choose one...Guy is a one man wrecking crew. |
