What I meant was the idea that you mentioned about the 700-pound gorilla. After 86 years of frustration, its difficult to not to start to think down on yourselves. But once the Red Sox beat the Yankees, that "we cant win" mentality was over. After all, if they could beat the $200 million team that caused them so much heartbreak over the years, after being three outs away from a sweep, then ANYTHING was possible
As for the hate/respect thing, all I'll say is this...The Yankees and Red Sox have played 52 games the last 2 years, and at least 6 of those will go down in baseball history as some of the best ever played (the Pedro/Zimmer game, the Aaron Boone game, the Jeter-into-the-stands game, the Dave Roberts steal game, the extra-inning game the next night, the Curt Schilling bloody sock game). And it takes two GREAT teams to have so much drama and so much great baseball |
