| NBA rants: Ron Artest, LeBron Although I'm not as big an NBA fan as I used to be, mainly because of the rapid declne in quality of play, I still follow it fairly regularly. So, there were two things I was reading about this morning that I thought were really interesting
First off, is that nutjob Ron Artest. He was recently benched by his coach for two games for undisclosed reasons. The reason why, according to Artest, was because he asked his coach for as much as a month off so he could promote his rap album. Here's a guy making several million dollars a year and only works 8 months out of the year, and he's asking for a month off, mid-season??? If he didnt go to St. Johns, I would really hate this guy
Then, on the totally opposite end of the spectrum, is LeBron James. Although I hate high-schoolers going pro, I make an exception for LeBron. His incredible talent causes me to make an exception for him. The Cavs were losing by 19 to the 4-0 Suns last night, and LeBron dropped 18 points in the 4th quarter, outscoring the entire Suns team, and leading his team to an overtime victory.
The most impressive part was the shot that sent it to OT. The Cavs were down 3 with 7 seconds left, and the play called was for LeBron to shoot a 3. He was immediately double-teamed, and rather than try to chuck up a bad shot and try to selfishly be the hero (*cough* Kobe *cough*), he passed it to a wide open Zydrunas Ilgauskus, and the 7'3 center hit the tying 3-pointer.
LeBron might never be as good as MJ, but he should be close. This kid is something special. |
