| I actually think restarting it as a predominantly canadian league isnt a terrible idea. Most of the teams will probably fold, so you keep Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Vancouver, and Calgary, a handful of northern US, hockey-town teams (Detroit, Philly, New York, Colorado, Boston, Chicago, Minnesota) and put teams back in Winnipeg and Quebec. Now, you've got an intimate league, with teams only in places where people care, and you can shorten the schedule so the games actually matter.
