| Fix your favorite sport We all know that there are plenty of problems in sports, so i thought it would be cool to hear some suggestions for how to improve the sports and leagues we love to watch. Example: Baseball 1. Salary cap: Although this would hurt my favorite team more than anyone else, I think it would be best for the good of the game. Its really not fair that the Yankees and Red Sox can simply outspend everyone else. And, to tell the truth, its almost not fun to be a Yankee fan anymore, because it just doesnt seem fair 1a. Salary floor: As a corollary to #1, you've gotta also set a minimum salary requirement for teams. If the Yankees have to curb their spending for the sake of competitive balance, the Devil Rays cant field a 25 million team with no chance to compete. Especially if revenue-sharing continues. Something that teams like the Royals seem to forget is that winning teams make money. and to put a winning team on the field, you have to spend some money. Its a simple law of business: you have to spend money to make money. You can call Rangers owner Tom Hicks an idiot for paying A-Rod so much, but at least he was trying to put a winner on the field 2. Steroid testing: What the moronic MLB Players Union seems to not realize is that steroid testing benefits the players!!! Its for their own health and safety. There are plenty of broken-down football players from the 70's who can tell you that. Plus, baseball is getting a bad rep, and they've gotta do something to clean up their image to the public. And its only fair to the guys who arent using. If you're not on steroids, why do you have anything to hide 3. A new Player's Union: Does anyone remember who won the 1994 World Series? Oh wait, there was no World Series in 1994!!!! Because the players were on strike. Because they were told to by Donald Fehr and the MLBPA. Then these assholes wanted to go on strike again two years ago, and they refuse to allow steroid testing.
Plus, they wouldnt let the A-Rod deal go through, even though A-Rod, the Red Sox, and the Rangers all wanted it to happen. They claimed that A-Rod would be making less money, and that he has to receive something substantial in return. How about the satisfaction and happiness of playing for a winning team? The MLBPA are a bunch of greedy, money-hungry soulless bastards. They ruined baseball once (in 1994), and almost again in 2002. they need to go 4. Move the Expos to Las Vegas: Montreal doesnt care about the Expos. Their stadium is a dump. They're a glorified minor-league team, which raises great prospects for other teams to capitalize from (Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez, Vlad Guerrero, Larry Walker, etc.)
Las Vegas is the fastest-growing city in America. Its an exciting town with TONS of money running through it every day. There's no other professional teams in the area to compete with. The only problem is gambling, and MLB can make an arrangment with the Nevada Gaming Commission that there will be no betting on baseball games, similar to the arrangement they have with UNLV (No gambling on UNLV basketball or football games...must have really sucked for the casinos when UNLV made the Final 4 twice in the early 90's) 5. Take the body armor off of players. Seen Barry Bonds lately? He stands right on top of the plate, with a huge brace on his arm. He has no fear of getting hit by an inside pitch. because it'll just bounce off his brace. So he can just lean over the plate and hit anything on the outside. Several other players do this as well. A batter has to know that if hes gonna crowd the plate he might catch one up and in. if not, the pitcher is at a significant disadvantage
Well, there are my suggestions for making baseball better. i've got some more, but i'll hold off for right now. Now, some of our favorite sports are in dire straits right now (hockey, boxing). what would you do to make them better? |
