Are sports players role models?

Charles Barkley was criticized heavy about 10 years ago for blurting out in a locker post game. "I am not a role model!. Parents are role models. I am just a basketball player!"

Point being. Is he right? Is he "just" a basketball player or is he in fact a role model.

Whether he likes it or not, he is a role model. Many people are role models and have no idea nor desire to be one.

If some 10 year old kids favorite player is Allen Iverson and loves basketball, some kids will very likely try to be like them. Its very easy to influence kids whether you intend to or not.

As much as sports players say they aren't role models, they are.
