Syracuse University announced that they will no longer be calling their teams the "Orangemen" and "Orangewomen", but rather just "Orange"
I didnt read what theyre reasoning was, but believe its because Orangeman is a derogatory term for Native Americans
a few years ago, St. Johns University changed its team name from St Johns Redmen to St Johns Red Storm, because of the negative connotation regarding Native Americans
Do you think professional franchises like the Washington Redskins should follow suit? How about the Atlanta Braves? Or the Cleveland Indians? |
