| Re: Edge has too many world titles. Successful transitional champion is successful.
That's really all Edge is. I doubt he will ever be considered as one of the greatest WWE/WHC Champions of all time because he really doesn't do anything but put over the next guy in line when he is the champion. Even as a heel, he's very ineffective since he doesn't draw near as much heat as a top heel should for whatever reason. Whether it's the fact he's just too "cool" to be hated by everyone or that a lot of today's fan just naturally hate WWE's babyfaces and cheer for the other guy, Edge really doesn't do anything for me as a champion.
I think the only reason he's had as many title reigns as he has is because he's reliable and will work with anyone. He has some great matches here and there, but he's nowhere near as consistant as Rey Mysterio, Shawn Michaels, Chris Jericho, John Cena, and CM Punk usually are. Jeff Hardy isn't consistant in the ring, but fans consistantly want to see him, which is a lot more than I can say for Edge.
So as for the number of titles he's won, he's going to be very overrated by the next generation's wikipedia fans just because of how many titles he's won, so we might as well get ready for that. He's basically the Trish Stratus of the men's division, another highly-overrated champion. |
