| John Morrison is a terrible face I am aware that his push has been very well done and has been universally praised, and I'm not arguing with the way he has been booked really. What I am saying is that his gimmick, his whole persona, only really works as a heel. He has never been the best mic worker by any means, but when he was a heel looking down on people and basically being an arrogant, egotistical jerk, it seemed to work a lot better. This is mainly due to his look and the nature of the gimmick, a decadent rock star character who is his own biggest fan.
Last night on Smackdown was a good example of how bad face Morrison is. I thought his segment with Teddy Long in which they were singing Michael Jackson songs was just cringe-worthy it was so bad. You could argue that that was just a bad segment, but I think with Morrison in particular, he is really bad and trying to be a face and come across as that "fun guy" everybody likes. The segment just felt so forced and I don't really see how anybody can buy into his face character.
In the ring, being a face kind of works for him due to the high flying offence the fans can appreciate, but outside of the ring, face Morrison pretty much sucks. I always say charisma is more important for a heel, but because of the whole gimmick, I feel being a heel was a lot better for him and his face character just seems so awkward.
