Re: Situation in Iran

Quote:
I cannot believe the lack of attention this is getting from main stream media. It's almost appalling that the only time CNN, Fox or MSNBC are giving this are some special 15 minute updates. We need specialists in the area, people like Nicolas Kristof, or Kevin Sites. Actually, I'd be happy with anyone to be honest. And really, we're looking at two things that practically world changing.

1.) Iran is possibly going to go through a revolution. This is entirely a common-folk driven revolution, and that's not something that has really been seen since the French revolution. The Iranian military also won't shoot their fellow Iranians, so the government has brought in Hezbollah to do it. This going to have a cascading effect, as now Hezbollah is going to be the enemy for the entire middle east. We're potentially looking at something like the fall of communism, only this is going to be the fall of dictatorships.

2.) Social media. This uprising would NEVER have existed if it weren't for sites like FriendFeed or Twitter. Not only is it allowing the Iranian people to connect, and organize these protests, but it's also allowing the world to stay informed about what is going on.
Two things.

1. I disagree with that bolded point, Iran 1979 is a perfect example of a common folk revolution with installed the current Islamic Republic.

2. I've been trying to follow the best I can with limited computer and tv access for the past week but where have you heard hezbollah has been brought in? I have heard them using their royal guards (I can't remember their name) who are extremely faithful to the current prez. And they are the ones doing the killing.
