| Re: Who should face the Undisputed HW Champ? If Lesnar defeats Mir this time then a trilogy between the two is defiantly in order, but not right away. I say give the winner of Lesnar/Mir II the winner of Couture/Nogueria. Then regardless of the winner of that, Lesnar/Mir III would need to happen if Lesnar defeats Mir this time.
Velasquez (26) and dos Santos (24) both need to be slowly brought into the upper echelon of the heavyweight division. Not just because they're young, but because they're in all likelihood the future of the heavyweight division. Their are three gatekeepers in the UFC heavyweight division right now in my opinion. Kongo (due to lack of ground game), Herring (due to lack of wrestling), and Gonzaga (due to what is now known as Belfortism). Velasquez has already defeated Kongo so I believe he should be tested with Herring next, and then Gonzaga. If (or should I say when) dos Santos defeats McCully then I would test him with two of the three gatekeepers. He's already defeated who a lot of people believed was the true number one contender so I wouldn't spend that much time building him up. Take it slow with those two guys though. No need at all for UFC to rush them.
Carwin (34) not so much. He's older, already defeated one gatekeeper, had more fights than Velasquez and dos Santos, and needs to be pushed up the ladder now before his physical prime is behind him. I say give him the loser of Couture/Nogueria. |
