Rep Power: 3 | Post Breaking!: Edition Three - Future Post Breaking News & TNA LockDown Review Post Breaking!
Edition Two Hello everyone and welcome to the first ever Post Breaking! column in Wrestling Heaven. As some of you should already know, Post Breaking! was once only exclusive to one forum. The column is still exclusive to one forum, but now it's WH forums! This will be a very short edition. I will only be discussing the latest PPV from TNA which was Lockdown. Also here I would like to announce some information about future Post Breaking! columns. Starting from May 31st I will be posting this monthly. In that column you will be seeing very opinionative TNA PPVS reviews and likely WWE PPV reviews too. I will also be discussing and giving my opinion on latest events which have occured in the wrestling world. Whether it be in the ring or backstage. So here we go... TNA Lockdown 2006 - Review
In this little write up I am going to review the latest PPV effort by TNA 'Lockdown'. As you all should know. Lockdown is one of the most unique PPV's in wrestling today as every match up is contested inside six sides of steel. Included on the PPV was the World X Cup preview match with Team USA vs. Team Japan. A match which could be concidered to some as a dream match, Samoa Joe vs. Sabu for the X Division Championship. Christian Cage vs. Abyss for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, and of course the big one. Jarrett's Army vs. Sting's Warriors in a Lethal Lockdown War Games match up. Sure all of this looked great on card, but would it live up to the hype? World X Cup Preview
Team USA vs. Team Japan
This has to be the best six man tag match I have seen since Shelley, Aries, and Strong vs. Styles, Daniels, and Sabin on iMpact a few months back. The showcase of talent in this match was incredible. The fact that they kept it all in the ring was even better. Now usually you see alot of teams use the cage for one reason, and that is to torture your opponent with. Well I was completely shocked to see none of the six wrestlers use the cage as a weapon. The issolation of the teams made it so there was action going all the time. Alex Shelley was brilliant in this match. The most valuable person in the match in my view. It was also nice to see Team Mexico come out during the match and watch on. Terrific openner for Lockdown. Good to see Team Japan win the match. Set the tone of the whole Pay Per View perfectly. If this is only a preview, then the World X Cup is going to be a must see. Backstage Segment:
Wasn't much in this at all. It was a nice way to build up the match between Team 3D and Team Canada. But something which let the whole thing down to me was them bringing up WWE. OK, they never meantioned the company, but still. It was a very poor thing for them to go on about it. The little segment afterwards with Larry Zbyszko was very well done. I haven't watched iMpact for a few weeks so I had no idea what he was going on about. We've now gotten underway in the PPV, and now we find out that there will be a suprise later on tonight. Brilliantly done. Christopher Daniels vs. Senshi
I was quite suprised to see this match come on next. To be honost, I think it should have been up the card abit more. At first I didn't know why it was going to be Senshi who was going to be Daniels opponent. It took me a while to figure out that they were both part of Triple X. So the two have had history together which is great for the match. Now the match itself to me was a dissapointment. I've never really liked Senshi in the ring. He's never seemed to get my attention. This match looked like it was going to be an all out brawl from the start. And it was inside a steel cage. Now why didn't they use the steel cage more if these two hated each other. Near the end it began to get good where they did start using the cage more. The ending was decent enough. A few counters and then a cheap win for Senshi. I think this fued could have alot of potential. If they continue on with this they could drag Daniels away from the X Divsion Championship hunt and have room for newer guys. Anyway, was a dissapointing match, but wasn't horrible. Really did come in too soon on the card. Backstage Segment:
This was ok. Bob Armstrong didn't seem like he knew what he was going to say half the time. Set the tone for the arm wrestling match between him and Konnan which was the next match. The promo afterwards was far too long. This was only an arm wrestling match. It didn't have too much importance. Arm Wrestling Match
Bob Armstrong vs. Konnan Nothing too exciting. I think it was pretty obvious that Armstrong was going to come out the victor here. A very good after match. Some funny exchanges with Kip James and BG James. But again, nothing great as expected. Backstage Segment:
Interesting little segment here with Larry Zbyszko and Jarrett's army. I think they kind of screwed it up. The only ones who seemed to know what they were talking about was AMW. I loved the way how they hyped up themselves going into the match. Jarrett could have said more. And well, Steiner was just plain horrible. They didn't hype up the match as much as they should have here. Xcape Match
Petey Williams vs. Puma vs. Shark Boy vs. Elix Skipper vs. Chris Sabin vs. Chase Stevens
This was an incredible match up. Simply amazing. I have never seen an X Divsion match like this before. One wrestler who really stands out here is Chase Stevens. This was his chance to show everyone what he's got as a singles wrestler. Well, when you pull off a shooting star press from the top of a steel cage your proving alot. One of the most high risk moves i've ever seen. And the way he landing looked sick. He also got some good moves going against Puma and even countered a Canadian Destroyer by Petey Williams. Other then him Skipper, Shark Boy, and Sabin had impressive outings. The pinfalls in the match did come quite suddenly which wasn't great. The ending was just brilliant. I never thought they could pull off two guys fighting on the outside of the cage while trying to escape. It was quite funny to seeing how Chris Sabin won the match. Just a brilliant match. Wasn't excatly full of high risk X Division innovation but was still very good. Backstage Segment:
Boring as usual promo with James Mitchell and Abyss. Nothing special here other then the NWA Championship match being hyped up and Abyss giving a growl or howl. Whatever that thing he does it. Boring! X Division Championship
Samoa Joe vs. Sabu
While it lasted, this was a very good match up. But it was far too short. It was hard to believe that this was for the X Division Championship. I guess when they say no limits they really mean it. I think that they did go alittle too far once Sabu brought out the razor. Sure he's hardcore, he brings out chairs and thumbtacs. But damn, he almost stabbed him right in the eye with that razor. Almost looked like a knife. Some good hardcore/ECW like moves here. The chair, and cage were both very well used. This match really should have gone longer though. The finish kind of came out of nowhere. I was half expecting Sabu to fight his way out of the Muscle Buster because it came so fast. Still a good match none the less. Backstage Segment:
Another rather boring segment with the Canadians. I swear to god, they need to stop singing that Canadian anthem so much. It really get's annoying. Eric Young's scared act is always a classic. Nothing much else in this. The promo afterwards building up the match between Team Canada and Team 3D was done very well. It really shows how far these two teams have gone since back at Against All Odds. It was a great way to get into the mood for the next match up. Anthem Match
Team Canada vs. Team 3D
Beautiful match up between these two teams. So far this has been my favourite of the night. Both teams worked extremely well together. The cage was used brilliantly. A very interesting turn of events at the end with the ref getting knocked out. I thought for sure that Team Canada would again find a way to get the victory here, but boy was I wrong. It was very good to see Team 3D get the win here. Even if it took them bringing down the USA flag twice. It would have been nice to see Eric Young and Brother Runt get involved into the match more at the start. But they did get their time at the end which was great. Aftermatch was very boring. Nothing in that, but terrific match. Arena Segment:
Shocking would be a perfect word to say about this segment. And I don't mean that in a bad way. Christy Hemme's return to wrestling could have had abit more in it. But wow, she's looking as good as she ever has. The news about changes in the TNA management, and the return of Raven was great. Great segment over all. Full of suprises. Would have been better after the NWA Championship match though. Bacstage Segment:
This was short and sweet. Christian Cage set's the tone for the championship match perfectly here. And if that wasn't enough it was set even more with the promo afterwards. NWA World Heavyweight Championship
Christian Cage vs. Abyss
Words cannot describe how brutal this match was. When I first saw this match on paper I thought nothing of it. Just another opponent for Cage, but wow. Thing's have esculated alot in this fued between the two. The starting was very slow. I don't think it built the match up the way it should have. But it really came together perfectly. Abit of brawling on the outside of the ring. Some of the shot's on the cage door were just incredible. When the match officially started it was quite slow. I would have thought that after everything Cage has been through they would have him get atleast some offence at the start. Once he did things got great. The huge DDT, the Shock Treatment, the Frog Splash of the top of the Cage. It was incredible. And it wasn't over yet. The last five minutes of the match was great. Going back and forward, back and forward. The end was ok how Cage pinned Abyss. I didn't really buy into his Unprettier on the thumbtacs. The post match was quite predictable in my view. You don't just go back into a cage and go after a manager when there is another 350 pounder in the ring. It was obvious Cage was going to get attacked. Even concidering he was quite intence at the time. So far this is my favourite match of the night. A terrific 15 minute World Championship match. Backstage Segment:
This was very good in my view. Even though Killings didn't get any good fan reaction, Style's was horrible on the mic, and Rhino said pain twice. This hyped up the main event very well. I would have thought Sting would have something more to say, but ah well. The others done enough. Decent promo afterwards. Seen it all before though. Lethal Lockdown War Games Match
Sting, AJ Styles, Rhino, and Ron Killings vs. Jeff Jarrett, Scott Steiner, Chris Harris, and James Storm
Oh My God! I have never seen a match in TNA like this ever. This is by far the best match of the whole night. The whole thing was done with perfection. The cage was used very well by every superstar. The weapons were used to it's fullest. And even the top of the cage. One of the most high risk moves I had ever seen performed by AJ Styles on the top of the cage. I mean, wow. He was at the top of the whole arena. When he came down on James Storm it almost looked like the whole roof was going to collapse or something. Another move which amazed me was the one which occured just before Scott Steiner entered the ring. AJ Styles at the top of the cage. Storm and Jarrett going for a double suplex on him. Then Killings and Rhino going for electric chairs. And then Chris Harris hitting a powerbomb causing everyone to fall on the ground. The ending although it was quite predictable it was also very good. Sting was easily going to pick up the win for his team. Overall this was a perfect match. I have seen alot of gimmick matches in mainstream wrestling, Lethal Lockdown is one which now stands out as one of the best. Overall
Overall this is one of the best Pay Per Views TNA has had to date. The whole concept of having cage's in every match proved to be very successful. Again we see alot of suprises on this PPV. Returns, debuts, everything. Every match was class. There wern't many dissapointments here at all. A very good PPV by TNA. I'm giving it a 9/10. If you haven't seen Lockdown yet, then you don't know what your missing! If you liked that read then be sure to check out Post Breaking!: Edition Three. There I will be giving reviews on WWE Backlash and TNA Sacrifice PPV's as well as some events going on in the wrestling world.
